Readings from Adrienne Maree Brown's 'Emergent Strategy' draw comparisons between elements of nature and the relationships between emergence and movements for social justice.
Adrienne calls out Mycelium as "the part of the fungus that grows underground in thread-like formations. It connects roots to one another and breaks down plant material to create healthier ecosystems. Interconnectedness. Remediation. Detoxification."
These musings as well as time spent foraging in Pacific Northwestern forests have given me a seemingly endless spring of inspiration. Vibrant colors paired with foresty jewel tones, full and fluttering textures, and organic lines have all been points of inspiration for these pieces.
Mushroom props were made by CR Hollis with Paper Mache, Acrylic paint, rhinestones, and a rubber coating fit for indoors or outdoor use.
Special thank you to Gabrielle Arnold of Stonelight Film for helping me beautifully capture this collection, as well as Conner Reed Lyons for film photography, and to models Naomi Likayi, Cheng Lee, and Sophie Tawa.
